Accessibility in the Library

A help point for those looking for accessibility resources and services at the Union library.

Entering the Building

The library is a three-story building with elevator access as well as accessible restrooms on each floor for both men and women.

Parking

Accessible parking can be found in both the Grant Center and Jennings parking lots.

Main Door Entry

The library is also equipped with ramps and automatic door openers on both sides of the building. A ramp is located on the Southeast side of the building (facing the Bell Tower closer to the Grant Center) with an automatic door opener for the set of doors closest to the ramp. You can find the ramp on the Northwest side of the building (facing the parking lot, near Modero and Jennings Hall) with the automatic door opener being the set closest to the ramp and Modero.

Elevators

An elevator can be found near the restrooms and the Circulation Desk. The elevator is available for all three floors of the library.

Restrooms

Accessible restroom stalls are found in each restroom. The restrooms on the 1st and 2nd floors are located directly across from the elevator. The restrooms on the 3rd floor are near the emergency exit stairwell on the Northeast side of the building.

Seating and Library Rooms

Open Seating

Open seating is available on every floor for anyone to use and cannot be reserved. The 1st floor primarily has tables with lamps and chairs. There are also small cushioned armchairs with coffee tables. The 2nd floor has both round tables with chairs and arm chairs with coffee tables as well as study carrels. The 3rd floor has study carrels and round tables with chairs.

Study Rooms

All study rooms have one whiteboard/dry-erase wall and a table with chairs. There are two larger study rooms on the 2nd floor. There are 9 additional study rooms on the 3rd floor. Study rooms can be booked using a reservation for a maximum of 3 hours a day. You can use unoccupied study rooms, but you may be asked to find a different study room if someone has already booked the room you are in.

To book a study room visit the Library's homepage and then click on the button for "book a study room."

Quiet study

If you are looking for a place to study that is very quiet, you might try the 1st floor Reading Room (Periodicals Room). This room is located at the end of the hallway near the men's restroom past the Large Lab. The 1st floor Reading Room is considered deep quiet, if someone is studying or working in this room, please be respectful by not talking. This room has tables with chairs and armchairs with coffee tables.

Interview Studio

The Online Interview Studio is located on the 1st floor near Modero and the Research Desk. This room features a large screen computer monitor and desk. It can be used to conduct virtual interviews. This computer also has the JAWS screen-reading program. To use the Interview Studio, you will need to make a reservation on the Library's homepage using the "Book Online Interview Studio" button

Computer Labs

The Library has 3 computer labs with additional computer stations all on the 1st floor, 3 Paw Print Printers, and 2 additional printers.

The Small Computer Lab is near Modero. It has 18 computers in a classroom-style setting with one additional computer on a podium at the front of the room.

The Large Computer Lab is near the restrooms and behind the Family Room. The Large Lab has 24 computers in a classroom-style setting with one additional computer on a podium at the front of the room.

The Learning Center (TLC) is located between Modero and the Circulation Desk. You will recognize it by the glassed-in room. There are 12 computers in cubicle-style desks in TLC. These computer desks are wider and offer more privacy than the other computer labs.

There are several computers outside TLC available for use that are for sitting. The computers in the South Lobby are for bar top stools or standing.

There are 4 printers on the 1st floor of the library (TLC, Large Lab, South Lobby, and Open Printing). An additional Paw Print printer can be found on the 2nd floor near the restrooms.

For questions about using the computer or printing, please stop by the Circulation Desk or chat with us online.
