Biographical / Historical

Woodland Baptist Church was founded in Haywood County TN in 1835 as "the Baptist church of Jesus Christ called Browns Creek." The church continued under that name until September 1870 when they voted to change the name to "Woodland Church." The reason for the change was to avoid confusion with other churches of similar name. It is noted in the records that other churches included "Brown's Creek 'Primitive' Church, Brown's Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and Brown's Creek Colored Baptist Church."
